CPCS Staff

Carolyn Kelshaw, Chief Executive Officer

My background growing up at Tahlee Bible College gave me a sense of the Bible’s central place in thinking and living. The camping program run at Tahlee was the beginning of my commitment to see young people educated for responsive discipleship. I had early opportunity to express this commitment through camps, ISCF and at Newcastle University within the Evangelical Union.

I trained to teach English and French, with a major in linguistics and taught in the state system before my three children we born.

I am married to Alan who was a solicitor in Springwood in the Blue Mountains for 27 years and currently pastors a congregation in our church. Our three young adult children are now married.

Alan and I studied at Regent Theological College, Vancouver, from 1985 to 1987. The College’s commitment to an interdisciplinary, integrated approach to learning and biblical faith reflects our movements approach to Christian education.

In the early 90's I co-wrote a book Shocked by Blessing with Dr Rod Thompson which has now been published and obtained my Master of Arts, Creative Writing, through the University of New South Wales.

Before taking up this position in April 2004, I taught variously at Wycliffe Christian School, Mamre Christian College and Tyndale Christian School. I spent 7 years on the board of Wycliffe, 3 as board chair. In 2003, I worked in the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Western Sydney.

Arle de Rooy, Office Manager and Executive Assistant to Carolyn Kelshaw

I feel enormously privileged to work at the national office where I have served in a variety of roles since 1995.  Currently my main duty is to provide assistance and support for Carolyn Kelshaw and the Board of Directors.

My husband Fred and I live in the Hawkesbury Valley, west of Sydney.  All four of our children attended and completed their schooling at Tyndale Christian School in Blacktown.

Julie Tonowicz, Finance and Business Manager
I have extensive professional experience in Chartered accounting firms, financial advisory servives and in management roles in industry in Australia and Poland. My more recent experience has included the provision of accounting tax and advisory services to a number of small and medium sized organisations on an independent consultancy basis and also whilst employed with KPMG and CollinsSBA. I have extensive experience across a broad range of financial management requirements including reporting to management boards. Prior to working in the national office, I worked with Christian Schools Tasmania.

Suzanne Mitchell, Publications Editor

I work part time as editor of The Christian Teachers Journal and Nurture. My job is to produce quality journals that inform parents and teachers about Christian education. Both journals have an editorial committee who meet quarterly to assess articles and create ideas for future editions – always a challenge. Nurture has been published for 41 years and I have been editor for the past 14 years. It is circulated to around 10,000 families in Australia and New Zealand and also to places such as The Slovak Republik, Poland, Taiwan, Africa and North America.

The production of a single issue involves many months of planning, contacting authors, editing, deciding on what goes into the journal (in consultation with the committee), liaising with the graphic artist, proof reading and finalising production with Openbook (the printers in Adelaide). I regularly attend conferences to keep up to date with issues in Christian education and to seek out potential authors to contribute to the journals. I have co-edited two books on Christian education, Reclaiming the Future and The Crumbling Walls of Certainty. When I am not working in the national office I work as a consultant historian or as a casual teacher.

I live in the Blue Mountains, am married to Rick, have one daughter, two daughters in law, two sons, one son in law and four grandchildren.

Kate Green, Administrative Assistant and Personal Assistant to Suzanne Mitchell

My position at the national office is administrative assistant as well as personal assistant to Sue Mitchell. As I have a background in hospitality and the nursery industry, it is a really exciting adventure for me to now be working for a Christian organization and a whole new learning experience. I have now been at the national office or a year and I love the adventure! My husband Michael Green, attended Tyndale Christian School at Blacktown, NSW for many years and graduated in 1999. I now find myself working on the grounds of his school! I attend South Windsor Baptist Church

Kaye Martin, Clerical Assistant/ Cleaner

For over twelve years I have been responsible for keeping the national office clean and tidy and providing clerical assistance in accounts. I also help out with photocopying, filing and preparing mail-outs for our member schools – just about anything that needs doing, in fact. The office staff call me the lifesaver, because I always show up in an emergency!

I enjoy working with the friendly staff, and have seen many changes over the years, and still keep in touch with some of those that have left. My husband Geoff and I worked for many years as volunteers at Tyndale Christian School, where our children Rebecca and Craig attended school. Many friendships have been made over the years we have been involved with Christian schooling.
